The best street style from Lagos Fashion Week 2020
Lagos is Nigeria’s largest city and is also known as the cultural and economic powerhouse of the country. Home to one of the world’s largest movie industries — ‘Nollywood’ — and a booming business hub, the sprawling metropolis is a bed of creativity. This month, fashion takes centre stage at Lagos Fashion Week spring/summer 2020, which runs from October 23 to October 26.
First launched by Omoyemi Akerele in 2011, the lawyer-turned-artistic-director has used the event as a platform to elevate the local fashion scene and showcase labels from across the continent. This year, the official schedule includes Orange Culture’s urban street-wear and Studio 189’s sustainable and empowering designs. Nigerian stalwarts Maki Oh (a New York Fashion Week regular) and Lisa Folawiyo will be showing, too.
As the shows begin and the city’s street style stars step out in an array of bold, bright fashion, Vogue photographer Stephen Tayo captures the best moments.
